Eyelid Cosmetic Surgery
Do you look older than you feel?
Our eyes are the best features. But as we age, the body naturally produces less elastin and collagen causing the skin to lose its firmness and quality. The facial skin starts to wrinkle and sag, affecting our fine delicate features of the eyelids. The droopy or puffy eyelids can also cause eye strain and interfere with our vision.
We have tried sunscreens, night creams, ointments and serums, over the counter remedies, and home remedies to protect and prevent our skin from aging. But our lifestyles, are hectic and stressful causing our body to age faster.
Sagging of eyelids can be due to various predisposing factors
- Poor diet
- Improper sleeping habits
- Sun exposure
- Dehydration
- Genetics
- Stress
- Smoking
- Exposure to harsh weather conditions
What happens to the eyelid ?
The youthful face has well defined creases, which highlights our facial features
As time goes by, the skin becomes loose, and thinner. Lids can become puffy, make it appear heavier and look more tired. Sagging skin and excess fat can cause the eyelids to droop. The creases also lose its prominence. When the overall fat content decreases, the eye appears sunken in the face. In the lower lids, we develop eye bags, as the bone beneath loses density, and shrinks, and fat can prolapse leading to further bulges.
There are a number of options to rejuvenate and make your skin look and fell firm again, depending on whether you have got wrinkles, puffiness or droopiness of the eyelids.
What are the surgical options to rejuvenate the eyelids?
Technically termed as “Blepharoplasty”, it will correct the sagging skin, drooping eyes and restore a slightly more youthful look. Eyelid surgery removes small flaps of skin and fat and can also reposition the fat so the eyes appear less puffy in places and fuller in hollow areas,
This surgery will remove the sagging folds, remove the loose fat, and muscle tissue, reduce the puffy and heavy under eye bags, and repair the droopy eyelid look.
Functionally, it also restores, peripheral vision, and by removing excess skin that weighs down the lid, it reduces eye strain and corrects facial posture as well.
Dermal fillers can also be used to restore volume to the eye area for a more youthful appearance. It is minimally invasive cosmetic treatment for patients with reduced volume in the eyes.
All procedures are usually day care. They are performed in the operating theatre, and can go home after one to two hours after the procedure. Patients will require maybe one or two weeks to resume normal activities. During the recovery one may experience minimal swelling and bruising around the eyes.
It is always advisable to have a good conversation with the doctor about the expectations of the surgery before the procedure.
